Photovoltaic Cost Reduction-PV Busbar

Blog Technology

There are nine main core components of solar modules. And it includes cells, interconnection ribbon, busbar ribbon, tempered glass, EVA, back sheet, Aluminum alloy frame, silicone, and junction box.

From the cost side, the top five auxiliary materials in terms of cost are the frame, glass, film, back sheet, and welding ribbons. Among them, the frame has the highest proportion in the non-silicon cost. And the glass, adhesive film, and back sheet are the core auxiliary materials of PV modules, which have an important impact on the final performance of the equipment.

Today, we will mainly introduce the three parts of the cell, the interconnector ribbon, and the busbar ribbon.

1. Cell

Devices that convert photoelectric effect into electricity.
PV-Cell
There are many kinds of materials that can produce photovoltaic effects. Such as monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon, amorphous silicon, gallium arsenide, indium copper selenide, etc. Polysilicon material is an electronic material made of industrial silicon. It is purified by a series of physicochemical reactions to achieve a certain purity. And It is the main raw material for manufacturing silicon polishing wafers, solar cells, and high-purity silicon products. It is also the most basic raw material for the information industry and the new energy industry.
Polysilicon Production
Globally, the polysilicon industry is now continuing to shift to domestic, and the epidemic has accelerated this process. 2020, global polysilicon production capacity of 608,000 tons, down 9.9% year-on-year; production of 521,000 tons, an increase of 2.6% year-on-year. During the same period, China’s polysilicon production capacity of 457,000 tons, down 1.9% year-on-year, and production of about 396,000 tons, an increase of 15.8%. Domestic polysilicon production capacity and output growth are significantly ahead of the global, accounting for 75% and 76%, respectively.

2. Interconnector Ribbon: Series connection of battery cells

Interconnector ribbons are an important raw material in the welding process of solar modules. And usually, we’ll coat a thermal coating on the outer surface.

Interconnector Ribbon
PV ribbon is also known as tinned copper tape. It refers to a solder that is coated with a uniform thickness of tin base on the surface of copper tape. Usually, we use it in the connection between PV module cells to play a role in conducting and gathering electricity. 90% of the cost of PV ribbon comes from copper and tin as raw materials. In other words, the current bulk price determines the production cost basically. And the technical content of the solder tape is also very low, and the market is fully competitive with little bargaining space.

3. Busbar Ribbon: The carrier that connects the battery string

As far as the structural composition of the busbar ribbon is concerned, copper, aluminum, or copper-aluminum-plated materials with high electrical conductivity are usually used to prepare the sink bar. However, copper or aluminum materials are less resistant to corrosion. Therefore, copper, aluminum, or copper-aluminum sink strips are easily corroded in use, thus reducing the performance of the sink strips and shortening their service life. Meanwhile, tin (or tin alloy) with relatively superior wear and corrosion resistance can be used for a longer period of time in a natural or corrosive atmosphere. However, because of the low electrical conductivity of tin (or tin alloy). It cannot be used alone to prepare photovoltaic sink strips.
Busbar Ribbon
Raytron’s New Copper Clad Aluminum Busbar Ribbon
In order to compensate for these shortcomings, a copper sink bar coated with tin was developed by combining copper, which has a relatively high electrolytic rate, with tin, which has relatively good corrosion resistance. This type of PV busbar not only has good electrical conductivity but also has corrosion resistance. This means the use environment can not corrode easily. However, although copper has good electrical conductivity. But the thermal conductivity is not good, and compared to the high price of aluminum, the mass is larger, thus increasing the product and transportation costs. In response to the defects in the prior art, Raytron provides a composite busbar ribbon with good electrical and thermal conductivity, low price, and lightweigh

Conductivity

CCA busbar offers superior electrical and thermal conductivity offers.

50% Cost reduction

As the density of CCA is 2.23 times less than copper, almost 50% overall cost could be saved.

reliability

Raytron offers CCA ribbon with almost same performance and reliability as copper.

As GOOD as copper

No change needs to be made in your production line. You can use CCA ribbon as same as copper.
